Kylie

I am so excited to see her Aphrodite Live show in May! I have been a fan of her for years. Her music is upbeat and fun to dance to. It is my "happy place" music. Kylie is also someone I imagine I would like. She is a breast cancer survivor and always tries to put across a positive impression. I read a recent interview with her and she said something I can so relate to.
"Smiling confuses people ~ which is why I do it so much. I also think it works wonders. When you are having a bad day or bad things happen to you, I think its's true that you should keep smiling. It cheers you up. If in doubt, smile."

More random thoughts.

Beauty may be in the eye of the beholder but glamour is in the one who possesses it.

Glamour, glamour, glamour....

"One of my most favorite movies of all time is Gilda starring the beautiful Rita Hayworth and the amazing Glenn Ford. This movie is Film Noir at it's finest.  The story is captivating mainly because of the love/hate tension between the main characters, Gilda and Johnny. The writing is genius. Some of the best lines in cinema history can be found in this movie. A personal favorite is "Boys have the darndest way of growing up, almost when you're not looking."
Every time I watch I am spellbound by the use of light and shadows, so dramatic and sharp. The costumes are incredible, the songs memorable, but it is really the chemistry between Rita and Glenn that make this a favorite of mine. LOVE IT!!!!!!!!

From the master himself...

"Happiness is the secret to all beauty. There is no beauty without happiness"

My obsession with Mr. Henry Miller

Probably my favorite American author. Maybe favorite author of all time. Henry was a gritty, brazen New York City guy who wrote in his own voice and was consequently criticized for it. His works are not for the easily offended but for those who can appreciate REALITY smacking them in the face. He broke rules by writing introspectively (yes, think Proust) and  delving deep into the human condition and all is beauty and ugliness in a voice that was vulgar and brutally honest.  Get beyond the curses and you will be pleasantly surprised.

"Alone, with a tremendous empty longing and dread. The whole room for my thoughts. Nothing but myself and what I think, what I fear. Could think the most fantastic thoughts, could dance, spit, grimace, curse, wail --nobody would ever know, nobody would ever hear. The thought of absolute privacy is enough to drive me mad. It's like a clean birth. Everything cut away. Separate, naked, alone. Bliss and agony simultaneously. Time on your hands. Each second weighing on you like a mountain. You drown in it. Deserts, seas, lakes, oceans. Time beating away like a meat ax. Nothingness. The world. The me and the not-me. Oomaharumooma. Everything has to have a name. Everything has to be learned, tested, experienced. Faites comme chez vous, cheri."

Random thoughts.

Sometimes women just want to be looked at and admired. Sometimes a bit more.

Anais Anais

"There came a time when the risk of remaining in the bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom"

Anais Nin

Under the Weather.

I am home sick today and feeling even more introspective than usual. Maybe it is the fact that I'm not feeling well, or that it is raining outside and a terribly dreary day but I decided to spritz on L'Heure Bleue eau de parfum.
A little background here, Guerlain is one of the oldest perfume houses in the world. It was started in 1828 by the Guerlain family who ran it until 1994 when it was acquired by LVMH (Louis Vuitton Moet Hennessy).
L'Heure Bleue (The Blue Hour) was created in 1912 by  Jacques Guerlain. Jacques was also responsible for Shalimar and Mitsouko
 (also timeless classics).
Back to L'Heure Bleue. It has been described in many ways but perfume, like art is subjective. I find it to be very layered, warm, and melancholy. Overcast. Beautiful and comforting much like a rainy day.
The top notes are bergamot and aniseed. The heart notes are neroli and carnation mixed with spice. The dry-down notes are powdery iris and violet with vanilla benzoin and tonka bean.
It is a very complicated scent. One that changes while it lingers on the skin.
I prefer it as a special occasion scent because of it's sensuality and depth.

Here we go....

"Nearly everything which we call life is just insomnia, an agony because we've lost the habit of falling asleep. We don't know how to let go."
- Henry Miller

Remembrance of Things Past

Madeleines. The inspiration for this classic novel by Marcel Proust. I don't think I've ever had a madeleine before, but now after attempting to read this classic for the fourth time I feel I must. Yes, it is my fourth attempt. The book has been in my possession for 2 weeks now and I've managed to get to page 35. Why do I do this to myself???
Marcel is intriguing and annoying. He is long winded and inspiring.
He is a contradiction.
 He is fascinating.

"Will it ultimately reach the clear surface of my consciousness, this memory, this old, dead moment which the magnetism of the identical moment has traveled so far to importune, to disturb, to raise up out of the very depths of my being?
 I cannot tell."
page 35.

I am shamelessly addicted!!!

I honestly feel Trish McEvoy has created a modern day classic. Sexy 4 Gardenia is my new favorite fragrance. I put it on and feel instantly wonderful. I have been wearing it for a couple of months now and have gotten nothing but compliments on how I smell.  The gardenia is partnered with musk, honeysuckle, Neroli orange petals and tuberose.
It really is what I imagine heaven smells like.

Words of wisdom from a beauty expert.

"At every level, you are at least three persons: the woman you think you are, the woman you really are, and the woman you appear to be."  ~ Dr. Erno Laszlo

Dr. Laszlo worked on some of the most beautiful faces ever including Marilyn Monroe, Greta Garbo, Jackie Kennedy and Audrey Hepburn.

First day of my new blog!

2011 is going to be a year of new people, ideas, and attitudes. This blog will be a place for me to post quotes, reviews of everything from perfumes to movies and comment on life in general.
